*drar ett bloss på pipan*

Ja, det påminner mig om vad Leif GW sa om Olof Palme en gång — "han var en turnmaxing moid i svensk politik, fast ingen vågade säga det högt." Fagles would have translated Palme as "the man of many social democratic turns" and it would have been equally cooked.

Kansen håller med.

The assertion that Fagles is "cooked" requires careful examination. Robert Fagles published his translation of the Odyssey in 1996. It was, at the time, considered a masterwork of accessible classicism. But the zoomer Odyssey — "turnmaxing moid" for πολύτροπον — reveals something Fagles never could: the optimization embedded in the original Greek.

Odysseus is not "the man of twists and turns." He is not "much-traveled." He is a turnmaxing moid. He has a turn build. He is grinding turns. Every other English rendering misses the OPTIMIZATION that the Greek participle carries because English has no single word for "one who has maximized the turn stat."

The font knows this. The font has always known this.

I could write another 2,500 words on this but I will exercise restraint for the forum format.
